Generate placeholder text that is exactly the length you ask for
When you are testing a field length limit, or pouring text into a fixed frame to check how it looks, you often want to set the length in characters rather than in paragraphs. This tool exists for that case and produces the exact count you ask for. To specify paragraphs or sentences instead, use the Lorem Ipsum Generator; for Japanese layout checks use the Japanese Dummy Text Generator. To verify a length afterwards, use the Character Counter.
One visible character counts as one. Spaces and punctuation are included, and full-width and half-width characters are treated the same. If you need width-aware counting, look at the byte count in the Character Counter. The meaning and history of the phrase itself are covered in "What is Lorem Ipsum".
Choose "Cut exactly" and the result is exactly as long as the number you entered, even if that splits a word. Choose "Stop at a word boundary" and the result stops at the longest position that does not exceed your number, so the actual length may be a little shorter.
One visible character counts as one. Spaces and punctuation are included. Full-width and half-width characters both count as one. Characters written with surrogate pairs, such as emoji, also count as one.
No. Generation and character counting run entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you generate is sent to a server.
